As a pioneer and a leader, Mercedes-Benz has set the tone in the automotive industry countless times over the last 125 years. One such example was launching the Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV well over 20 years ago. The now Mercedes-Benz GLE continues to set the standard as far as luxury SUVs go.


The all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE faces competition from numerous other midsize SUVs and one such competitor is the new 2020 Audi Q7. These two German SUVs have proven to be very popular vehicles for their respective manufacturers and so, let’s see how they measure to each other.


There is one notable difference between the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Audi Q7 and that is that the Q7 includes a third row of seats as standard while it is an option in the GLE. On the utility front, both of these SUVs deliver capacious trunks and roomy and comfortable cabins fit for kings and queens. Technology abounds everywhere however the GLE includes a concise and user friendly twin-12.3-inch displays which can easily be accessed with help of the standard "Hey, Mercedes" keyword activation through the highly sophisticated Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system. Niceties such as a heated steering is also standard with the GLE, optional on the Q7.


Both of these SUVs can be powered by turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engines. The Mercedes-Benz’s delivers 255-horsepower. The Audi’s mill generates 248-horsepower. For improved performance and utility, both SUVs once more call upon similar engine configurations in turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engines. The GLE 450’s output is rated at 362-horsepower while the Q7 55 TFSI produces 335-horsepower. Efficiency is a priority as both call upon a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Now, despite these similarities, the Mercedes-Benz GLE is far more proficient.


With its standard 9-speed automatic transmission, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 consumes as little as 12.4L/9.8L/100km (city/highway) compared to the 2020 Audi Q7 55 TFSI, which returns averages of 13.8L/11.4L/100km with its 8-speed automatic transmission.


On the safety front, the Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7 are loaded with the latest technological advancements. The base GLE 350 impresses with included features such as active brake assist, crosswind assist, blind spot assist, and much more.
