2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE vs 2021 Range Rover Sport

The Mercedes-Benz GLE is the luxury SUV that started the segment and continues to provide design leadership. It's roomy, advanced, agile, and full of style. First-class technology paves the way for a safer and more connected driving experience.

It's important to compare the GLE to other competitors. Here, we compare it to the 2021 Range Rover Sport.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE features top power

The GLE includes a powerful family of engines in its lineup. The GLE 350 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The GLE 450 includes a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder that produces 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

The AMG GLE 53 upgrades to a turbocharged six-cylinder, increasing horsepower to 429 and torque to 384. The AMG GLE 63 S offers top performance even the Range Rover Sport can't reach. With 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, the 63 S reigns at the top of the comparison.

Although the Range Rover Sport offers many powertrains, the lower range of its offerings have less power. Ultimately, the Range Rover Sport's most powerful engine falls behind the AMG GLE 63 S.

The GLE features a nine-speed automatic transmission, which has more gears than the Range Rover Sport's eight-speed transmission. This refines shifting and performance.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE offers a better family platform

Luxury SUVs sometimes focus too much on performance and forget about the most important factor--passengers. The GLE strikes a fantastic balance in passenger comfort and volume while advancing other features. Front seat occupants receive a generous 1,074 mm of headroom, which is a different level from the 983 mm the Range Rover Sport offers. The GLE also surpasses the Sport in front legroom.

The GLE continues this room advantage in the rear seats. Passengers have 1,039 mm of legroom compared to 940 mm in the competition. The GLE also has more rear headroom.

When it's time to pack up and take the family on vacation, the GLE provides an abundant amount of cargo volume. It delivers a total of up to 2,056 litres behind the front seats, which is 371 more litres than the Range Rover Sport has in the same configuration.
