How do you know if your winter tires are still good?

Winter is slowly approaching and soon we will have to contend with snow and cold. Although it is still September, several experts are recommending to get our winter tires earlier due to a possible shortage.

At the moment, however, we still have a large selection of winter tires for your Mercedes-Benz vehicle at Mercedes-Benz Kamloops and we can help you find the right tires for you and your budget.

That said, if you already have your tires, we can install them for you and help you with storage afterwards. But how do you know if your tires are still good? Here are a few tips :

Check the tread

When new, your winter tire has a tread depth of 14/32 of an inch. On the road it wears down and after a number of years it is too thin to handle snow and water well. At 50% wear, or 7/32 of an inch, it is recommended to change your tires. You can check the tread with a specialized tool, or use a 25-cent coin and put the coin with the caribou facing down in the groove. If you see the tip of the caribou's nose, the tires will need to be changed.

Think about last winter

Did you notice at the end of the last winter that your vehicle had less traction or skid more often? If so, your tires probably need to be replaced. A good winter tire keeps your vehicle stable. If that stability seemed compromised, it is a sign that the time has come to change the tires.

Where are you driving?

If your geographic location suddenly changes, the type of roads you are going to take on a weekly basis may be fundamentally different. If so, make sure you have the right tire for the right conditions. If you've moved from the city to the country, for example, you may need winter tires that perform better in deep snow.
