Mercedes-Benz unveils EQC EV sport utility vehicle.

As announced at the Paris Motor Show in 2016 at the same time as the unveiling of the concept that would become the EQC presented last year, the EQ family is a new division of electrified and energy-efficient models that will see the day in the next few years. The Mercedes-Benz EQC will be the first fully electric vehicle from Mercedes-Benz when it arrives on the market next year, but it won’t be the last.

An electric SUV with the latest tech.

The EQC has a modern look and a distinctive visual signature from all other Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Its thin front and rear LED lights provide a unique and immediately recognizable style to Mercedes-Benz's new electric SUV, while its imposing grille gives it muscle and presence.

The cabin takes the two large screens of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class and S-Class, among others, but the whole is more rounded and contemporary. In addition to its many safety and connectivity technologies, the Mercedes-Benz EQC gets the MBUX or Mercedes-Benz User Experience multimedia system.

This device is one of the most advanced infotainment systems in the world. It offers a particularly advanced voice interaction system, and you can have a conversation with your car using the command “Hey, Mercedes” just like you would with SIRI and Google Assistant.

EQC EV SUV - hey mercedes

In doing so, you are connected to the car and can adjust a variety of functions. For example, if you find that it is too hot in the car, the simple command "Hey, Mercedes, it's hot" will activate the A/C system.

In terms of dimensions, the new EQC has the general appearance of the GLC with similar dimensions both front and rear. The trunk offers virtually identical dimensions to the 550 litres of the GLC. It is also surprising to note that Mercedes-Benz has managed to preserve a good cargo capacity in its EQC despite the presence of the batteries, the engine, and the electrical system.

More than 300 kilometres of range for the new Mercedes-Benz EQC.

Let’s have a look at this engine for a second. The EQC will be powered by two electric motors, each positioned on one of the axles which makes it an all-wheel drive vehicle. With 408 horsepower and an impressive 564 lb-ft of torque, the EQC to reach 100 km/h in approximately 5.0 seconds.

The performance is similar to the Tesla Model X and the Jaguar I-Pace. However, the EQC is expected to be more affordable than these two models.

A lithium-ion battery of 80 kWh takes care of feeding the two electric motors. It takes between 7 and 8 hours to recharge with a 240-volt outlet, but it is also possible to recharge the EQC to 80% in 40 minutes with a quick charge DC Fast Charger.

The announced range is 450 kilometres on the European cycle which should translate into a range of about 320 kilometres in North America. In other words, the new Mercedes-Benz EQC will allow its owners to complete their daily commute without any hassle and travel further distances as needed.

We do not yet know the price of the new Mercedes-Benz EQC, but we know that it will arrive next year as a 2020 model. To learn more, contact us today!
