The new Mercedes-AMG S 63 AMG: Almost 800 horsepower of electrified performance

Unveiled earlier this week, the new Mercedes-AMG S 63 AMG delivers nearly 800 horsepower, but it does so without ever compromising the luxury, refinement and comfort that have always been associated with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. This large sedan promises to redefine expectations of high performance and exclusivity in the premium sedan segment.

Breathtaking performance

The starting point of this latest Mercedes-AMG is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 gasoline engine is paired with a permanent-synchronous electric motor driven by a 13.1-kWh, 400-volt battery located behind the rear wheels. These two motors work in tandem to provide levels of speed and power never previously seen in an S-Class or any other vehicle.

The combustion engine alone delivers 612 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, and the power increases to 791 hp in combination with the 140-kilowatt electric motor. The new S 63 AMG E PERFORMANCE accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.3 seconds, a figure similar to what some exotic cars deliver. What's more, the electric motor in the rear and the combustion engine in the front each power an axle, which means you get permanent 4Matic+ all-wheel drive at all times.

Approximately 30 km of range, but above all, exceptional performance

On battery power alone, the S 63 E PERFORMANCE is capable of driving up to about 32 kilometers. The motor has a hollow permanent magnet rotor installed around the output shaft of the left rear wheel. In order to maintain an even distribution of the vehicle's weight, the high-performance battery and motor are installed behind the rear wheels, where they join the two-speed transmission and limited slip differential to form a compact drive unit.

New active motor mounts continuously adjust stiffness to suit driving conditions, controlling the force with which the motor couples to the body. Up front, an aluminum stabilizer increases front-end torsional stiffness, which improves handling feedback, and a cross brace on the suspension mounts adds additional rigidity. At the rear, lightweight aluminum diagonal struts contribute to handling responsiveness in the underbody, and the lightweight fiber-reinforced plastic battery compartment improves body rigidity.

The new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE is everything you want from a large luxury sedan and more. It's as fast in a straight line as it is in a corner, and as capable of sporty performance as it is of comfort. Come and learn more today.
